แรงขับเคลื่อนเรื่อง CSR ของบุคคลสำคัญในองค์กรต่างๆ เริ่มส่งผลให้เกิดความเปลี่ยนแปลงในสังคมได้ชัดเจน เพราะส่งผลให้เกิดความตื่นตัวของภาคธุรกิจ ปรากฎการณ์ครั้งนี้ หากมองผิวเผินคงเป็นแค่เรื่องแฟชั่น แต่มาถึงวันนี้ ความรับผิดชอบต่อสังคม หรือนิยมเรียกสั้นๆว่า “CSR” (Corporate Social Responsibility) กลายเป็นแนวคิดที่ภาคธุรกิจให้ความสนใจและพยายามนำมาปรับใช้กับการดำเนินธุรกิจเพราะเป็นอีกหนึ่งวิธีในการสร้างมูลค่าเพิ่มให้กับองค์กร สินค้า บริการในยุคนี้

โดยกิจกรรมดังกล่าวจะต้องมีลักษณะต่อเนื่อง เริ่มต้นตั้งแต่ การคิด การพูด การกระทำ การวางแผน การตัดสินใจ การสื่อสารประชาสัมพันธ์ การบริหารจัดการ และการดำเนินงานขององค์กรเพื่อแสดงเจตนารมณ์ให้สังคมได้รับรู้ ตัวอย่างเช่น ปั๊มบางจาก ได้จัดกิจกรรมสนับสนุนให้เกษตรกรเป็นเจ้าของปั๊มน้ำมันในพื้นที่ของตนเอง การพัฒนาสร้างปั๊มบางจากให้มีเอกลักษณ์ของท้องถิ่น

มีการนำอาหารและสินค้าที่มีชื่อเสียงหรือเป็นเอกลักษณ์ของท้องถิ่นนั้นๆ มาวางขายตาม‘ซุ้มสินค้าชุมชน’ ในบริเวณปั๊มหรือมินิมาร์ทของปั๊มบางจากทั่วประเทศเพื่อเชื่อมโยง’บางจาก’ กับธุรกิจขนาดกลางและขนาดย่อมหรือเอสเอ็มอี ซึ่งเป็นผลผลิตของภูมิปัญญาท้องถิ่นให้มีช่องทางการตลาดมากขึ้น แนวคิดดังกล่าวเท่าเป็นการสร้างพันธมิตรทางธุรกิจในวงกว้างขึ้น โดยทุกฝ่ายทั้งพนักงาน ผู้ถือหุ้น ลูกค้า และผู้บริโภค ทุกคนที่เกี่ยวข้องล้วนได้ประโยชน์ทั้งสิ้น เรียกว่า เป็น WIN-WIN SITUATION คงจะไม่ผิด

จากผลการศึกษาพบว่าการทำ “CSR” เอื้อให้ภาพลักษณ์ทางสังคมขององค์กรดีขึ้น แถมยังใช้ทุนและเงินน้อยกว่าการทำแผนโฆษณาประชาสัมพันธ์ เพราะสามารถดึงกลุ่มลูกค้าและไม่ใช่ลูกค้า เข้ามาร่วมกิจกรรมเพื่อสังคมได้ด้วย

ในแง่ของประโยชน์ทางตรง ที่สามารถสัมผัสจับต้องได้ ของการทำ CSR คือ พนักงาน เกิดความภาคภูมิใจในการทำงานร่วมกับองค์กร ขณะเดียวกัน ก็สามารถที่ดึงดูดบุคลากรที่มีคุณภาพ ให้เข้ามาทำงานกับองค์กรได้ และยังทำให้องค์กรสามารถสร้างรายได้และส่วนแบ่งตลาดเพิ่มขึ้น เพราะแนวโน้มลูกค้าที่ให้ความสำคัญกับการซื้อสินค้าและบริการจากองค์กรที่มีความรับผิดชอบต่อสังคมมีจำนวนเพิ่มขึ้น

สังเกตได้ว่า การส่งเสริมการขายด้วยการบริจาครายได้ส่วนหนึ่งต่อทุกๆ การซื้อผลิตภัณฑ์ในแต่ละครั้งให้แก่หน่วยงานหรือมูลนิธิที่ช่วยเหลือสังคมด้านต่างๆ มักได้รับความสนในจากลูกค้าเพราเท่ากับเขา(ลูกค้า)สามารถร่วม’ ทำบุญ’ไปด้วย

ส่วนประโยชน์ที่เป็นนามธรรมไม่สามารถจับต้องได้ คือทำให้ลูกค้าเกิดความภักดีต่อตราสินค้า โดยการทำกิจกรรม CSR ร่วมกับการทำตลาด เช่น แบรนด์เสื้อผ้าที่ใช้วัตถุดิบในการผลิตที่’ ไม่ทำลายสิ่งแวดล้อม ’ หรือผลิตจากโรงงานที่’ไม่ใช้แรงงานเด็ก’ ทำให้ผู้บริโภครู้สึกว่า สินค้าหรือบริการนั้นๆใส่ใจกับสังคม สิ่งแวดล้อม จึงกลายเป็นแบรนด์ที่เข้าไปอยู่ในใจของผู้บริโภคโดยถูกวางตำแหน่งตราผลิตภัณฑ์ (Brand Positioning) ให้เป็น’สินค้าเพื่อสังคม’

ส่วนองค์กรที่มิได้ใช้ตราผลิตภัณฑ์เป็นชื่อขององค์กร หรือเป็นองค์กรที่มีหลายตราผลิตภัณฑ์ สามารถดำเนินกิจกรรม CSR ที่เสริมภาพลักษณ์องค์กร (Corporate Image) โดยการสร้างธรรมเนียมปฏิบัติทางธุรกิจที่มีประโยชน์ต่อสังคม เช่น การส่งเสริมเยาวชนทางด้านการศึกษา กีฬา โดยให้เงินสนับสนุน หรือจัดกิจกรรมต่างๆ ให้เด็กเข้ามามีส่วนร่วม เป็นต้น

‘CSR’จึงกลายเป็นเครื่องมือทางธุรกิจที่ช่วยสร้าง’มูลค่าเพิ่ม’ (Value Added) สร้างความเจริญเติบโต (ยอดขาย)โดยการแบ่งปันการใช้ทรัพยากรร่วมกันระหว่างภาคธุรกิจ เครือข่ายชุมชนต่างๆ ทำให้เกิดความยั่งยืน (Sustainability) กับการดำเนินธุรกิจเพื่อสังคมในระยะยาว จึงนับว่า”CSR “เป็นส่วนผสมทางการตลาดที่ลงตัวระหว่างธุรกิจกับความรับผิดชอบ(สังคม) ในทศวรรษนี้
